Congratulations parents, you’ve done it!
Your kids are going back to school in about a month, so you no longer have to worry about keeping your kids safe and entertained during their summer break. Soon you will be able to go back to focusing on work and reestablishing a routine for the whole family. If you haven’t already, you’ll soon be wanting to make sure that your kids have all their school supplies ready, such as making sure that their pencils are sharpened and that their notebooks are fully stocked. What you may not realize is that by continuing to bring your kids to the chiropractor during the summer and into the new school year, you’re setting a great foundation for helping them thrive in their academic pursuits!
Better focus, attention, concentration and memory:
The nervous system controls and regulates every function in our body, meaning it plays a critical role in our health. When the nervous system becomes dysfunctional, this can impact our body’s ability to regulate our immune system, digestion, pain levels, stress response, and many others. Of particular importance for the purpose of today’s discussion, one of the things our nervous system helps with regulating is our ability to focus and recall information. The prefrontal cortex is one such structure in our brain that plays a huge role in memory and concentration.
So how does chiropractic help?
Multiple studies have shown that chiropractic adjustments stimulate neural pathways, which lead to changes in brain activity. In particular, one study1 found that the biggest stimulation in brain activity following an adjustment happens in the prefrontal cortex, increasing the brain activity in this region by 20%, which is a big deal! As we mentioned, the prefrontal cortex plays a role in attention and memory, but it also allows for proper decision-making, planning and impulse control. Through chiropractic care, we can correct misalignments that develop in kids through bad posture (i.e. sitting in a school desk, playing videogames, being on their phones), slips, falls, and repetitive movements (i.e. so that their nervous system can function at an optimal capacity. This is why a lot of our parents report that their kids are doing better in school after a season of consistent chiropractic care!
