Thriving During Summer with Chiropractic Care
Summer is officially here! Kids and teenagers are out of school, and they are SO excited for what’s to come! I don’t think many people ever forget the amazing feeling of summer: the warm months, sleeping in, pool days to stay cool, taking a long bike ride, spending time with friends outside or online, going on vacation, and just doing whatever it is that you want to do.
And whether you want to relax all summer or do a million different things, it’s undeniable that summer provides a huge change in our day-to-day life, and parents are no exception to this change in routine! For parents, summer is a chance to spend more time with their children and, while this can be a lot of fun, it can also be exhausting and bring a lot of overwhelm! Having kids out of school means having to balance multiple schedules at once and added financial stress to pay for vacations, summer camps or outdoor activities that keep them busy while parents work. During these months, self care should be an even bigger priority than usual so that you can stay healthy!

Because summer is a time when schedules grow hectic, kids tend to come in for chiropractic care with pain and aches from being online more often or to recover from the physical activity done through summer camps or hanging out with friends. On the other hand, parents tend to come in due to increased stress or because they’re feeling stiff from family days at the pool on top of their usual responsibilities. In fact, during summer we notice that people may need different segments adjusted instead of their usual pattern. For example, parents who are more stressed-out during summer may need adjustments more often in segments that target the parasympathetic system (which is our rest and digest system and helps to calm down our body’s stress response). On the other hand, children who are now spending many more hours playing videogames or online may switch to a pattern where their neck or hips need to be adjusted more often, because these regions tend to be affected with these activities.
